Afton says, "My On Your Mark Create! hop stop will feature a quick and easy, fat quarter-friendly quilt block. Though it looks complex, it's actually made from strip sets!"

Silent Night Sampler: Day 6

We're celebrating the season with 12 days of holiday-themed block tutorials using Ro Gregg's gorgeous and glittering Silent Night collection. Make sure you catch all of the tutorials, and then we'll show you how to assemble the blocks into a sampler quilt!

Today's tutorial is the present block. This tall and skinny block shows up twice in the sampler, so we'll be making two. It goes together really quickly!

Block measures 6" x 12" finished.

Cutting:
From the medallion print:
Two 3" x 10-1/2" pieces

From the red print:
One 1-1/2" x 10-1/2" piece
One 3" square

From the cream print:
One 3" square
Two 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" pieces

Step 1: Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the cream square. Layer right sides together with the red square.

Step 2: Stitch 1/4" on both sides of the drawn line. Cut on the line and press both units open. Trim half-square triangle units to measure 2-1/2" square.

Step 3: Lay out all of the pieces as shown.

Step 4: Sew the 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" cream pieces and half-square triangles together into a row. Sew the three long pieces together into a row.

Step 5: Join the two rows to complete the block.

Here's the finished present block:

And our two present blocks. Isn't the medallion print the perfect wrapping paper?!

Ruby's Block Hop: Day 5

Two more days left on our Ruby's Block blog hop!
Six designers have been playing with the Vintage 30's Ruby's Treasures collection by Barbara J. Eikmeier. They've chosen blocks from Ruby Short McKim's book, 101 Patchwork Patterns (download here--this is such a fantastic resource for blocks). You'll also have a chance to win some of this beautiful fabric for yourself!

Reeze Hanson from Morning Glory Designs picked a fabulous block called Sky Rocket from Ruby's book. Rather than deal with templates or set-in seams, she converted the design to paper piecing. Perfect points every time! We love the color combo she chose; head over to her blog to find the tutorial, see the second block, and enter for a chance to win fabric!

Here's the schedule for the blog hop--be sure to visit each day!

Monday 11/7: Donna Lynn Thomas @DonnaLynnThomasQuilter
Tuesday 11/8: Theresa Ward @AlwaysQuilts

Ruby's Block Hop: Day 4

We're more than halfway through our Ruby's Block blog hop!
Six designers have been playing with the Vintage 30's Ruby's Treasures collection by Barbara J. Eikmeier. You'll also have a chance to win some of this beautiful fabric for yourself!

Today Pat Speth from Nickel Quilts is sharing her block, the Road to Oklahoma. A scrappy quilter, Pat offers up two different design ideas to make a scrappy looking quilt with her block. We're showing one of her blocks here; see the other, the tutorial, and find out how to enter to win a bundle of fabric on her blog.

Ruby's Block Hop: Day 2

We're bringing you another blog hop this week!
Six designers have been playing with the Vintage 30's Ruby's Treasures collection by Barbara J. Eikmeier. You'll also have a chance to win some of this beautiful fabric for yourself!

Today's block was stitched by Donna Lynn Thomas, and it has plenty of movement--watch it spin! If the math side of quilting intrigues you, Donna shares how she enlarged the block to 12" square finished. Head over to her blog: you'll see her second colorway and learn how she chose which prints to use to create a 3-D effect, try out her bonus project, and enter to win a fabric bundle for yourself!

Ocean Sunrise Quilt Show and Tell: Part 2

Back in the spring, we sponsored the Ocean Sunrise Blog Hop featuring our Painter's Palette Solids. The three hostesses: Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl, Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs, and Stephanie from Late Night Quilter, selected this mouth-watering color palette.

After the hop ended, participants mailed their blocks to the hostesses so they could assemble them into quilts to donate to charity.

Today we're showing the quilt that Yvonne finished:

Look at her beautiful, dense quilting:

Even those all of these blocks are different, the palette allows the design to flow together seamlessly.

Yvonne found a very special recipient for this quilt--a friend's husband who is fighting cancer for the second time. We echo Yvonne's hope that this quilt brings him comfort and healing.

See Yvonne's post on this finished quilt here.
Find the original hop posts herehere and here.
See all of our Painter's Palette Solids colors here.

You can check out all of the great blocks along with their tutorials on Jayne @ Twiggy and Opal's Pinterest page.

Thanks for sharing, Yvonne!
