Silent Night Block Sampler: Day 4

We're celebrating the season with 12 days of holiday-themed block tutorials using Ro Gregg's gorgeous and glittering Silent Night collection. Make sure you catch all of the tutorials, and then we'll show you how to assemble the blocks into a sampler quilt!

Today's tutorial, our Stocking block, features three mini stockings to create a long and skinny design.
This block measures 18" x 6" finished.

Cutting:
From the gold:
Three 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" pieces
Six 1" x 5" pieces
Two 1-1/4" x 6-1/2" pieces
Two 2" x 6-1/2" pieces
Nine 1-1/4" squares

From each of two reds and one green for stocking:
One 3" x 4-1/2" piece
One 2-1/2" square

From each of two greens and one red for cuff:
One 1-1/2" x 3" piece

Step 1: Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of three 1-1/4" cream squares. Position two marked squares as shown on a 2-1/2" red square and one marked square on the 3" x 4-1/2" red piece as shown.

Step 2: Stitch on the drawn lines, trim seam allowance to 1/4" and press open.

Step 3: Lay out the two stocking pieces with one 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" cream piece and one 1-1/2" x 3" green piece. Sew the pieces into vertical rows and then join the rows.

Your stocking should look like this:

Step 4: Sew 1" x 5" cream pieces to the top and bottom to complete the stocking unit.

Step 5: In the same way, make two more stocking units.

Step 6: Lay out the three stocking units alternating with two 1-1/4" x 6-1/2" cream pieces in the center and two 2" x 6-1/2" cream pieces on opposite sides.

Step 7: Join the pieces to complete the quilt block.
