Silent Night Block Sampler: Day 1

We're celebrating the season with 12 days of holiday-themed block tutorials using Ro Gregg's gorgeous and glittering Silent Night collection. Make sure you catch all of the tutorials, and then we'll show you how to assemble the blocks into a sampler quilt! 

Here's a look at the fabrics we'll be using. So rich, and beautifully embellished with metallic gold. 

Today's tutorial is the Wreath Block:

Block measures 12" square finished

Cutting:

From the cream: 

One 6-1/2" square

Two 3" squares

Four 2-1/2" squares

Two 1-1/2" x 12-1/2" pieces

From the green:

One 2-1/2" x 10-1/2" piece

Two 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" pieces

One 3" square

Two 2-1/2" squares

From the red:

One 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" piece

One 3" square

Three 2-1/2" squares

Step 1: Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of two 2-1/2" green and two 2-1/2" red squares. Lay out the squares on the corners of the 6-1/2" cream square as shown. Sew on each marked line, trim 1/4" past the line, and press open. 

Your center square should look like this:

Step 2: Sew 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" green pieces to the left and right sides. 

Step 3: Draw a line on the wrong side of two 2-1/2" cream squares. Lay the square on both ends of the 2-1/2" x 10-1/2" green piece. Sew on the drawn lines, trim seam allowance to 1/4", and press open. 

Step 4: Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of two 3" cream squares. Layer the marked squares wrong side together with 3" green and red squares. 

Step 5: Sew 1/4" on each side of the marked lines. Cut on the line and press half-square triangles open. 

Step 6: Trim HSTs to measure 2-1/2" square. 

Step 7: Lay out the units from Steps 2 and 3, the HSTs, two 2-1/2" cream squares, one 2-1/2" red square, and one 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" red piece as shown. 

Step 8: Sew the pieces in the bottom two rows together to create rows. 

Step 9: Join the rows. 

Step 10: Sew the 1-1/2" x 12-1/2" cream pieces to the left and right sides to complete the block.
