Happy July!
We'll be sharing a few summery, patriotic projects with you in honor of the July 4th holiday. First up is a pinwheel picnic quilt by Blogging Design Ring member Roseann Meehan Kermes of Rosebud's Cottage. This quilt design uses oversized pinwheel blocks to create a quick quilt top, and the red, white and blue palette makes the "Sparklers!" name just right.

Hi, I'm Roseann over from Rosebud's Cottage. If you need a table covering for your picnic, a place to nap under a tree, or a throw to snuggle under while you watch the fireworks, "Sparklers!" is for you! With its fast piecing method, and large pieces, it is perfect for a last-minute Fourth of July project. Best of all, the directions are linked below in pdf form, so you can print them out and take them with you!

ReplyDeleteLove this project, Roseann! I grew up in Alaska, so it was never really dark enough on July 4th to enjoy the fireworks. Now that I live in the midwest, watching the firework shows (in the dark!) is one of my favorite 4th of July traditions!

Growing up in the 60's was fun, I remember Mom and Dad loading all 6 of us in the car and making a stop at the store for soda and chip's (a treat in it self) and heading the the Hill Top drive-in across the river to Wi. for fireworks! Oh I loved the ooh's-aah's,smells and pop's of the fourth growing up!

ReplyDeleteThe only tradition we really have is to try and see fireworks some place nearby. Most years we do, but sometimes we skip it because of the incessant mosquitoes in our area.

ReplyDeleteLove this quilt! My favorite July 4th tradition is getting together with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day. We give thanks that we live in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave!

We allways hav ea July 4th cookout each year and celebrate my sister and brothers birthdays then as well as they are both July babies.lol..Gues they will allways be momas babies although these years we are far from the baby stage all of us upwards of 40 and brother heading to his 50's.

ReplyDeleteHere,in Spain,we don´t celebrate 4th but is my niece(13) and nephew(20) birthday,thay are cousins and we have a big party that day.
Our favorite activity is to go downtown to watch the parade and then stay for the fireworks.
ReplyDeletei remember when i was a kid, we would walk down the street to our park. during the day, there was a carnival, then at night we would watch the fireworks from the same park.

ReplyDeleteWatching fireworks is the best part of the 4th. Whether we're able to go to one big show or drive around town looking for folks who've bought fireworks to shoot off, we enjoy the gorgeous color that fills the night sky.

ReplyDeleteMy most favorite memory is sitting on the porch with my dad waiting for the fireworks to shoot off in the night. We would ooooo and ahhh and talk about which ones were the best. We both loved the ones that banged the loudest and shook the ground. Dad is 94 now and we still talk about it. What a great way to remember great times with dad but to make a sparkler picnic table quilt.

ReplyDeleteWe live in the country, and so my husband and I like to drive down the road from our house and watch the fireworks. We can usually see 3 different firework shows from there. The sides of the roads get pretty crowded, people sitting in the beds of their trucks, chairs, etc. But, it is alot of fun being out their and visiting with the neighbors.

ReplyDeleteMy memories are of family and friends enjoying a big picnic with games and laughter. Celibrating the "land of the free and home of the brave" with fireworks at night. We all sang "God Bless America" when the sky lit up with color. What a bang to end the evening.
