Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day - January 24, 2013

That's right...mark your calendars!

January 24th is "Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day."

Isn't it great to have an excuse (beyond just wanting to buy fabric) to take a trip to your favorite quilt shop? It's practically your duty as a quilter!!

We'd like you to tell us about your favorite shop.
In return, we'll send out some of our favorite fabric.
To enter, leave a comment here on the blog or on our Facebook page sharing:
  • Your favorite shop's name, location and website
  • What you like best about the shop
We will choose one entry from the responses and profile the shop on our blog. We'll also send the nominator a fat quarter bundle as a thank you.

Leave a comment about your favorite shop by 11:59 PM EST on Saturday, January 26, 2013.

  1. My favorite shop is Granny B's Quilt Shop in Dickson, TN! The Fay & Jennifer (mom and daughter) are always friendly, kind, helpful and just a joy to be around! I go by even when I don't really NEED anything, and always end up walking out with something. :) SUPPORT YOUR LQS!!

  2. My favorite quilt shop is Rocking Chair Quilts in Butler,MO. Lisa and her staff are amazing! They will help with everything from picking out that one fabric that you just didn't think would work to ordering a special pattern. Lisa has classes, quilt trips and and contests, always somethingnew and exciting.

  3. My favorite quilt shop is The Stitching Nook (http://www.stitchingnook.com) in Richmond, Indiana. There are many classes to choose from and they are always willing to try class suggestions made by the customers. The Stitching Nook is part of several shop hops. They also sell sewing, embroidery, and serging machines and make sure if a machine is purchased that the customer knows how to use it through demonstrations and classes. Customers taking a class get 20% off all material and supplies used for that class and also get 20% off of all purchases on birthdays.

  4. My favorite quilt shop is Prairie Shop Quilts in Batavia, Illinois (prairieshopquilts.com). They have a good mix of classes offered ... from beginners to expert quilters as well as novelty items (bags, baskets, etc.) and quilts from traditional to modern.

You can also find a decent collection of fabrics, patterns and notions.

The owner and staff are all very friendly, funny, and willing to help if you need it. I like that they don't hover over you while you are shopping.

You always feel at home while shopping there.

  5. My favorite Shop is Tangled Threads in Lynden, WA. They are going to celebrate there 10th anniversary next month. Customers and Guild members are making blocks about what the shop means to them!! I put the shop, with open embrodered on the door and a heart above it ...with some sun ray embrodery. On the Right is a large cross with the words God, Love and fabric embrodered over it....and flowers embrodered below :) It is the greatest shop...beautiful things begin there...including beautiful people who visit there. Sharylann and Thelma are the owners/friends. My husband keeps asking "are they tired of you yet?" because that is my happy place/hangout...Love everything about it :)

  7. My local shop is Patches & Petals in Cadillac, Michigan. I love it mostly because Melissa the owner is amazing. She has the most fun, bright and cheery fabrics. It is like a home away from home. I can bring my machine and projects almost anytime and just spend the day there sewing. She offers fun classes like block of the month, bag of the month, patch abilities and UFO Wednesday. We also have an open sew night once a month. She offers two quilt retreats every year and plans such fun stuff for us to do. I just love her. I did visit her on Thursday but then I visit her shop at least once a week anyway.
